This large format paperback provides an interesting account of the use of wine in “Golden Age of Egyptian History”. It contains lots of photographs of wine related artefacts and wall paintings and a list of the contents of King Tut’s wine cellar.

Fascinating stuff.

Notes on a Cellar-Book by George Saintsbury (1920)

AEB2FC3C-B62C-4DF3-AC17-CEF78A7C810F-256

A note on the dust jacket of the 2008 re-print of this book describes it as “one of the greatest tributes to drink and drinking in the literature of wine.” It isn’t wrong. The 1st edition from 1920 is nice to own but the 2008 version is perhaps better value in terms of the volume of information and commentary from Thomas Pinney.
