A facsimile reprint of the 1833 first edition, published in 1992 and limited to 500 copies.
An attractive edition, but not in the same class as and significantly more expensive than that published by Andrew Low Fine Wines Ltd in 1980.

This is a very heavy read but contains lots of statistical tables in the appendices with interesting data from the the 1700s and early 1800s.
There are two modern limited edition re-prints of this book that are also listed on this site and also a number of print-on-demand editions available.

This is a high quality facsimile reproduction of the 1833 first edition published by Andrew Low Fine Wines in 1980 in an attractive green half-leather binding.
This is a far superior book to those that are printed on demand and is currently available for around £30. A very good alternative to the far more expensive original.

The Preface begins “The object of the following pages is to exhibit a sketchy outline of the most celebrated vineyards, and the several processes of wine-making in different countries: in short, to represent the general economy of one of the most interesting branches of human invention.”

A fascinating read from a man who pulled no punches in articulating his thoughts about the seedier side of the wine trade in the early 19th century.

Published in 1824, this is one of the earliest comprehensive books on wine written in the English language, and has invariably featured in the bibliography of any serious book about the history of wine and wine-making since it was written. There is a significant chapter on Port wine.
This volume is from a 500 copy limited edition re-print published by the Bacchus Press in 1979.
This is one of the very few ancient books on wine that has not yet been made available as a mass-market facsimile re-print.

This print-on-demand edition actually contains a number of contemporaneous books on the same subject bound together in one large volume. The core of the subject is taxation and its effect on the British wine trade with various producing nations across the world. An interesting insight into what appear to be troubled times.
